Setelah sukses dengan single barunya, Montero (Call Me By Your Name), kini Lil Nas X kembali hadir dengan lagu terbarunya berjudul Sun Goes Down.
Single tersebut dirilis bersamaan dengan video musik resmi yang diunggah di kanal YouTube Lil Nas X pada Jumat (21/05/2021).
Disutradarai oleh Lil Nas X bersama dengan Psycho Films, video tersebut memvisualisasikan masa lalu menyedihkan sang penyanyi, ketika masih remaja.
Lil Nas X remaja digambarkan sebagai sosok yang membenci dirinya sendiri hingga tidak ingin hidup lagi di dunia ini.
Sesuai dengan liriknya, video itu menampilkan bagaimana Lil Nas X muda yang merasa kesepian. Dia memiliki teman, namun diperlakukan tidak baik oleh teman-temannya. Di saat teman-temannya memiliki pasangan saat prom night, dia datang seorang diri.
Penyanyi berusia 22 tahun itu juga mengungkapkan perasaan insecure-nya terhadap penampilan fisiknya yang memiliki bibir sangat tebal.
Saat merasa terpuruk, Lil Nas X dari masa depan merangkul masa lalunya untuk melangkah maju dan menghadapi semua kesulitan hidupnya.
“Dalam video Sun Goes Down, aku kembali ke masa lalu untuk mengunjungi versi diriku yang lebih muda yang sedang berjuang (secara mental), membenci dirinya sendiri, dan tidak ingin hidup lagi. Aku berusaha untuk mengangkatnya (dari keterpurukan),” kata pelantun Old Town Road itu soal video musik terbarunya mellaui Twitter.
Sun Goes Down muncul hampir dua bulan sejak perilisan Montero (Call Me By Your Name) pada Maret lalu. Kedua lagu tersebut akan menjadi bagian dari album debut Lil Nas X bertajuk “Montero” yang rencananya akan dirilis pertengahan tahun ini.
